Benin will welcome Haitian nationals to its military schools to train officers for the Armed Forces of Haiti. Lieutenant General Derby Guerrier, Haiti’s chief of staff, received the agreement from Lieutenant General Fructueux Gbaguidi, chief of the general staff of the Beninese Armed Forces, during a meeting on Tuesday 3 November 2026 in Cotonou, according to Matin Libre.

The two officials discussed strengthening military capabilities and restoring security in Haiti. The first groups of Haitian officer cadets are expected to be welcomed soon at Beninese training centres, according to the Beninese newspaper.

Demobilised in 1995 and reactivated in 2018, the Armed Forces of Haiti are undergoing restructuring and seeking to strengthen their leadership. The training request was made by Derby Guerrier as part of bilateral military cooperation, reports Matin Libre.

The announcement follows the 4 November meeting between Benin’s defence minister and Haiti’s army chief, which focused on the same military partnership.
