Chinese experts are asking media in Belt and Road partner countries to assess the programme against national development priorities, beyond agreements and infrastructure. More than 325 media representatives from over 20 countries took part in the cooperation forum in Fuzhou, according to Daily News.
Chinese officials on Tuesday called on journalists in countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative to cover the programme in light of their own countries’ development priorities, Daily News reports. They urged them to go beyond reporting on agreements and major construction projects to examine the initiative’s effects on economic transformation, poverty reduction and people-to-people exchanges.
Xian Hui, vice-chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, said the media should promote dialogue with the public, mutual understanding and cooperation among partner countries. She also called on journalists to connect the initiative’s projects with national development strategies and show their effects on living conditions.
The remarks were made in Fuzhou, China, at the opening of the 2026 Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum. The meeting brings together more than 325 media representatives from more than 20 countries. Hu Heping, executive deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, also called for journalism to be used to strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation between peoples.
