The fifth edition of the African Youth Cup brings together 12 teams at the Nongo technical centre in Conakry, compared with eight in previous editions. The competition features eight Guinean teams, two Liberian teams, one Ivorian team and one Sierra Leonean team, as well as two mixed teams made up of players from the Guinean Academy League and the Guinean Ligue 1, explains Diallo Ibrahim Diouldé, general manager of Fella Sport Management and organiser of the tournament.

The organiser says that 15 players who took part in the first four editions subsequently signed professional contracts, including seven after the previous edition. He believes scouts could still spot strikers, defenders and defensive midfielders during this fifth edition, without giving a number for potential future contracts.
