Desabre keeps door open to Paris Brunner for AFCON 2027

DR Congo coach Sébastien Desabre said the door remained open to Monaco striker Paris Brunner, who is eligible for the Leopards but remains torn between Germany and the DRC. Desabre made the remarks after naming his 26 players for the next AFCON 2027 qualifying matches.

DR Congo coach Sébastien Desabre has kept open the possibility of seeing dual-national striker Paris Brunner join the Leopards, despite his absence from the 26-player squad selected for the next two AFCON 2027 qualifying matches. “If he wishes to come, the door is still open,” Desabre said at a press conference on Friday 6 November, according to Afrik-Foot.

Paris Brunner, a 20-year-old AS Monaco striker, remains eligible for the DRC through his mother and for Germany, whose youth teams he has represented. Desabre said his staff had presented the national team’s project to the player and directly contacted his parents, while stressing that the DRC was not seeking to persuade him at all costs.

Brunner has been selected for the German under-21 team for the next international window. He has scored eight goals and provided one assist in 12 appearances, all as a starter, for AS Monaco since the start of the season, according to Afrik-Foot.

The DRC will face Sierra Leone on 12 November in Kinshasa and then on 17 November in Casablanca, Morocco, for the third and fourth rounds of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
