Adrian Banda, candidate for the ruling UPND party, has been elected unopposed in the Mandevu constituency in Zambia after his three opponents withdrew, Mwebantu reports. The candidates were Daniel Chisenga of the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), independent candidate Daniel Daka, and Ntazana Muntungwa of the Leadership Movement.

No vote will therefore be needed in the constituency for this parliamentary by-election. The withdrawals, announced on 29 October, paved the way for Banda, the candidate of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s party, to be elected unopposed.

The unopposed election follows the withdrawal of the three candidates, which made possible the scenario envisaged by the UPND for the Mandevu seat.
