Frank Maas, a member of the Automobile Club Luxembourg, recommends fitting them now, as temperatures forecast for the week are falling below 10 degrees, according to L'essentiel.
In Luxembourg, motorists must equip their vehicles with winter tyres as soon as the road has snow, black ice or frost. In the absence of these conditions, summer tyres remain legally permitted, explains Frank Maas, a member of the Automobile Club Luxembourg (ACL).
A check on a snow-covered road with summer tyres can result in a €74 fine and the vehicle being immobilised. Permitted tyres must bear the marking M+S, M.S. or M&S, or the Alpine symbol showing a three-peaked mountain with a snowflake, according to Sébastien Lecordier, Autocenter network manager at Goedert.
Frank Maas nevertheless recommends making the change now. MeteoLux is forecasting temperatures below 10 degrees this week, with mornings between 0 and 3 degrees. Below 7 degrees, the rubber in winter tyres remains more flexible and improves grip and braking distances on cold, wet or icy roads, explains Sébastien Lecordier.
