Men from the Wagner group and its auxiliaries arrested Atahir Nour, a representative of Mahamat Al-Khatim, at mining sites in Markounda and Kouki, in the north-west of the Central African Republic. The Wagner group and men from the former Central African MPC rebellion arrested Atahir Nour, a representative of Mahamat Al-Khatim, at mining sites in Markounda and Kouki, in the north-west of the Central African Republic. After being transferred to Bangui, he was filmed thanking the Central African and Chadian governments for their role in negotiations that led to an agreement with the MPC, reports Corbeau News Centrafrique.

The operation began on Sunday at several sites in the Ouham-Fafa and Ouham-Pendé prefectures, and continued on Monday. Atahir Nour, who buys gold and diamonds from mining operators, was stripped of his belongings before being handed over to Wagner fighters. He was transferred to Bossangoa, then sent to Bangui the following day, according to Corbeau News Centrafrique.

The arrest comes amid tensions surrounding the MPC, the Patriotic Movement for the Central African Republic. On 27 October, Bangui accused Chad of preparing to destabilise it, according to an article on the Central African accusations against N’Djamena.
