The president of the Common Man's Party (CMP), Mubarak Munyagwa, has suspended the party's secretary general, Moses Bigirwa, indefinitely, according to a letter addressed to the Ugandan Electoral Commission on 5 November and received on 6, Watchdog Uganda reports. The decision, endorsed by an extraordinary national executive committee, is justified by "substantial misconduct", without precise charges having been made public.
The suspension comes less than 48 hours after Moses Bigirwa publicly accused Mubarak Munyagwa of having abandoned the party he leads. On 4 November, the secretary general said the CMP president had taken "leave" after his seventh place in the 2026 presidential election, with 31,666 votes, or 0.29% of the vote, and had not appeared at the headquarters since. He also said that no formal meeting of the national executive committee had been held since January. Ropan Proscovia and Semmindi Asadullah were installed as acting secretaries general in charge of research and of administration and liaison respectively.
Moses Bigirwa had already left Bobi Wine's National Unity Platform (NUP), accusing the entourage of the singer turned opposition figure of blocking his ambitions. Mubarak Munyagwa, a former presidential candidate, has not reacted publicly to the suspension.ll
