Tunisia plans 32,557 public-sector recruitments in 2027

Tunisian MP Ali Zaghdoud says 32,557 recruitments and regularisations are planned in the public sector in 2027, across several ministries and worker categories. The figures were presented at a hearing on the draft economic budget for the coming year, according to an interview with Tunisia Numérique.

Tunisia plans 32,557 recruitments and regularisations in the public sector in 2027, according to MP Ali Zaghdoud, a member of the Finance Committee of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, cited by Tunisia Numérique. The Minister of the Economy and Planning presented these forecasts at a joint hearing on the draft economic budget for next year.

The largest allocations are for the Ministry of Education, with 5,800 posts; the Interior Ministry, with 4,736; the Ministry of Health, with 4,000; and the Ministry of National Defence, with 3,704. The plan also provides for the regularisation of 5,663 construction workers aged over 45. Of the 1,533 posts announced for higher education, 1,000 are intended to regularise the status of doctorate holders.

Ali Zaghdoud said the minister’s presentation reported growth of between 2.6% and 2.7% in the first half of 2026, supported in particular by agricultural and tourism revenues and transfers from Tunisians abroad. However, the MP considers the government’s target of 3.1% growth in 2027 unrealistic, given difficulties related to employment and purchasing power.

According to the MP, about 60% of Tunisia’s energy needs are imported at market prices. He also believes that power and water cuts in July and August could weigh on the trade balance. The recruitments are part of the 68.9 billion dinar Tunisian budget for 2027, which provides for an overall increase of 8.4%.
