At least four people were killed and nearly 90 injured after two trains collided in Egypt, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry cited by MyJoyOnline. Several carriages derailed when one train hit the rear of another between Kafr Ammar and Al-Raqqa stations, in Giza governorate near Cairo, according to the Egyptian National Railways Authority.
Dozens of ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals and cranes were deployed to clear the debris, while rail traffic was halted, Egyptian authorities said. The accident comes as Egypt’s railway network, the oldest in Africa and the Middle East, has already experienced several deadly accidents.
A previous train collision in Egypt left more than 60 people injured, according to the toll published on 8 November. In 2017, a train derailed near Alexandria before colliding head-on with another train, killing more than 40 people, according to MyJoyOnline.
