A tornado killed four workers and injured another on a building site in the Kepez district of Antalya, in southern Turkey, on Monday evening, according to local authorities cited by Africanews. Two of the victims died at the scene and two others in hospital.
The winds lifted two containers used as accommodation by the workers and overturned a crane, without causing any further casualties. Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin described the tornado as ‘exceptionally localised’; no other tornado was reported in the city.
The same weather event caused torrential rain and flooding in the Pendik and Tuzla districts of Istanbul. Passers-by rescued a father and his daughter who were trapped in a submerged car, while the D-100 road was closed, reports Africanews.
The bad weather came 12 days after the record rainfall of 14 October, which killed eight people in the Istanbul region, according to Africanews.
