Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed at the Paris Masters, beat Norway’s Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday to reach the tournament final, reports The Namibian. The Spaniard won the only break of the first set in the seventh game before converting a second break point in the second and closing with an ace.
World number four Ben Shelton joined Alcaraz in the final after beating Frenchman Luca Van Assche, ranked 47th in the world, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. The American will play in his sixth final of the season and will target a third Masters title after his victories in the last two editions of the Canadian Open, according to The Namibian.
The final will be the first meeting between Alcaraz and Shelton since the US Open quarter-final won by the American this season. Alcaraz said Shelton represented “one of the best challenges” in tennis today and that he would need to be particularly effective on returns, reports The Namibian.
Alcaraz will play his first Paris Masters final on Sunday. On 4 November, Alcaraz reached the last 16, while Djokovic was eliminated in Paris, preventing him from taking part in the ATP Finals.
