Wayne Rooney asked Michael Carrick to teach Bruno Fernandes a lesson in discipline inspired by Alex Ferguson and Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Manchester United striker spoke after the 4-1 defeat by Como and Fernandes’s criticism of Carrick’s tactics, according to The United Stand, cited by the Daily Post.

Wayne Rooney, a former Manchester United star, asked Michael Carrick, the English club’s manager, to apply a lesson from Sir Alex Ferguson to Bruno Fernandes after the Portuguese midfielder criticised his manager’s tactical choices. Rooney spoke after Manchester United’s 4-1 Champions League defeat by Como, according to The United Stand programme, reported by the Daily Post.

Rooney believes Fernandes could benefit from treatment similar to that which Ferguson gave Cristiano Ronaldo, to remind players of the club’s demands, according to the Daily Post. The comments came after Bruno Fernandes criticised Carrick, in remarks published on 22 October, and Rooney’s comments about the selfishness of Manchester United players on 23 October.

They also came on the day Carrick promised to turn Manchester United around, after a run of seven Premier League matches without a win, according to information already published by the club and sports media.
