Manchester United manager Michael Carrick said on Friday 23 October that he was “totally confident” in his ability to halt his team’s poor run, without confirming whether Bruno Fernandes would retain the captain’s armband. Manchester United are now seven matches without a win after their 4-1 defeat by Como in their Champions League debut, reports Citizen.
Carrick described the defeat as “totally unacceptable” and acknowledged that his team had “lost its way a little”. They have only two wins in 11 matches this season, against Ipswich and Azerbaijani club Sabah, according to Citizen.
The remarks came before Bournemouth’s visit to Old Trafford on Sunday 25 October. They followed Bruno Fernandes’ public criticism of Carrick’s tactical choices after the defeat by Como, already reported on 22 October, and Wayne Rooney’s comments about the players’ attitude on 23 October.
