The Saudi-led coalition intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh, while a drone was shot down in the Eastern Province. The interceptions followed several Houthi strikes on the kingdom, according to the coalition cited by AFP.
The Saudi-led coalition intercepted a ballistic missile launched towards Riyadh by Yemen’s Houthis on Saturday, its spokesman Turki al-Malki said on X. Two explosions were heard early in the capital, where civil defence activated an early-warning system to alert residents, according to AFP.
A drone was also intercepted and shot down in the Eastern Province, Turki al-Malki added. Since the beginning of the month, the Iran-backed Houthis have intensified their attacks on Saudi Arabia, one of which hit Riyadh International Airport.
The interception came after the attack on Dammam airport, which killed two people and injured eight on 22 October. It also came two days after the evacuation of non-essential staff from the US embassy in Riyadh, announced on 22 October.
