Paige Crisp, a 24-year-old British woman, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for her involvement in an attempt to smuggle 460 kilogrammes of cannabis into the UK. The drug, estimated to be worth £13.8 million, had been concealed in 22 suitcases seized by Border Force officers at Birmingham Airport, Zambianobserver reports.
The group of 11 people had arrived from Thailand via Paris. Officers found the cannabis vacuum-packed beneath a thin layer of clothing, along with eight Apple AirTags linked to the same Apple account. The weight of the luggage had also led the travellers to pay excess baggage charges at Bangkok airport.
Several co-defendants were also sentenced. Tasia Nelson received 32 months, Claire McCullough 26 months, while Olumoyegun and Ryan Boachie were each sentenced to 24 months. Four other members of the network had already received sentences totalling more than 11 years. Paul Boniface, a senior investigator at the National Crime Agency, said the operation involved coordinated flights and an organisation designed to conceal the trafficking.
