American lawmakers, Republicans and Democrats, have introduced a proposal to block Russian diesel imports and preserve US intelligence support for Ukraine. The bill must still be approved by Congress before it takes effect, according to Zambianobserver.
American lawmakers from both parties have introduced a bill to revoke the exemption allowing Russian diesel imports into the United States and reinstate the ban passed by Congress in 2022. The bill also seeks to protect US intelligence support for Ukraine, according to Zambianobserver.
The bill, called the Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act, was introduced by Republican Brian Fitzpatrick with fellow Republican Don Bacon and Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. Brian Fitzpatrick accuses the Treasury Department of weakening sanctions on energy revenues funding Vladimir Putin’s war by allowing these imports.
The initiative follows the arrival in the United States on 23 October of a first shipment of Russian diesel resulting from the agreement reached between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The bill must still be approved by Congress and signed into law to take effect, reports Zambianobserver.
