Peter Agada, a presidential candidate for the Young Progressives Party, criticised a request by African Action Congress candidate Omoyele Sowore to hold a campaign launch ceremony at Nigeria’s Presidential Villa. During a meeting with the press in Abuja, Agada said the high-security site should remain reserved for government activities, Punch reports.
Peter Agada, a Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, called for Abuja’s Presidential Villa to remain reserved for government activities. He made the criticism on Friday during a meeting with media in Abuja, in response to a request by Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate, who wants to inaugurate his campaign council there, Punch reports.
In a letter dated 21 October, the AAC asked President Bola Tinubu for permission to hold the ceremony at Aso Rock on 11 November, as well as for food, drinks and logistical support to be provided. The party cited political inclusivity and equal treatment for parties ahead of the 2027 election.
Peter Agada said the Villa, which he described as a high-security area, should not host social gatherings. He also cited the resurgence of the Ebola virus and security problems in Nigeria to justify his position, according to Punch. His reaction follows Sowore’s campaign request at Aso Villa, reported on 22 October.
