The programme examines scenarios that could allow Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of Likud, to remain in power despite his worst election result since 1999. Final results and the composition of the Israeli parliament are still being counted, according to France 24.

Benjamin Netanyahu still has a chance of remaining in power in Israel despite his party’s poor result in the parliamentary elections, according to France 24. The count is continuing, and the final make-up of the next Knesset, the Israeli parliament, has yet to be established.

Turnout was among the highest in decades, and Arab parties made historic gains. Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, recorded his worst result since 1999, but alliances could still allow him to form a government.

Initial estimates put Netanyahu’s camp in the lead, while projections published on 27 October gave the opposition 52 to 53 seats, short of a majority. These partial results leave the formation of a coalition at the centre of political negotiations.
