Nathan Ntahondi has been appointed president of the National Communication Council, Burundi’s media regulator, replacing Ambassador Espérance Ndayizeye. According to Iwacu Burundi, the change comes after several disagreements over media regulation, including the cancellation of a programme and the temporary suspension of the Yaga Burundi collective.

Nathan Ntahondi has been appointed president of the National Communication Council (CNC), Burundi’s media regulator, replacing Ambassador Espérance Ndayizeye. The appointment decree was issued by the head of state, Iwacu Burundi reports.

A former director-general of Burundi Press Publications (PPB), Ntahondi is a consultant in information and communication technologies. He left the PPB post before being replaced by Louis Kamwenubusa, now a member of parliament. Iwacu reports that observers link his appointment to his criticism of Ndayizeye, notably after the cancellation of a joint media programme on fuel shortages and their consequences.
