Nigeria is quarantining high-risk contacts of its Ebola patient, while she is showing significant signs of recovery. Health Minister Ali Pate says no community transmission has yet been detected, Vanguard reports.

Nigeria is quarantining high-risk contacts of its first confirmed Ebola patient and isolating other exposed people, Health and Social Welfare Minister Ali Pate announced on Thursday. The government has also strengthened preparedness in states and health facilities, according to Vanguard.

Ali Pate said no community transmission had yet been detected and that the patient was showing significant signs of recovery. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo asked airport authorities to keep the 46 identified contacts on a list barring them from flying during the possible incubation period, according to Vanguard. Airports must also step up temperature checks, travel-history verification and digital health declarations.

The announcement follows the strengthening of isolation arrangements in states in south-eastern Nigeria, reported on 22 October in preparations for isolation centres, and the flight ban affecting 46 contacts, announced the same day in the measure targeting contacts.
