The measure notably targets allegiance to another state, collaboration with hostile or terrorist organisations and terrorist acts, according to the CNT statement.

Mali’s National Transitional Council (CNT) ratified on Thursday 22 October a reform of the Personal and Family Code extending the loss of nationality to Malians by origin. The text was adopted by all 119 members present, according to a CNT statement.

The reform allows Malians by origin and naturalised citizens to be sanctioned for acts directed against Mali’s interests. It notably covers allegiance to another state, collaboration with hostile, secessionist or terrorist organisations, as well as acts of terrorism.

The ratification was approved in a plenary session at the Bamako International Conference Centre, chaired by Malick Diaw, president of the CNT. It comes during the legislative body’s October session, which opened on 5 October for a period of 75 days Mali’s CNT October session.
