Mali’s National Transitional Council (CNT) adopted on Thursday 22 October, by 119 votes, the bill ratifying the extension of the withdrawal of nationality to naturalised Malians as well as Malians by origin. The vote took place under the chairmanship of Malick Diaw, president of the CNT, according to Mali Actu.
The ordinance ratified, issued on 13 August 2026, covers in particular allegiance to another state, collaboration with hostile, secessionist or terrorist organisations, as well as acts of terrorism. The text allows the authorities to target acts deemed to undermine Mali’s security or fundamental interests, according to Mali Actu.
The bill was adopted by the Council of Ministers on 17 July 2026 on the initiative of the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Keeper of the Seals. Its ratification by the CNT is a step towards promulgation and implementation of the measure, whose procedures still have to be specified by decrees and case law.
The vote took place during the October session of Mali’s CNT, opened on 5 October for a period of 75 days, following the announced examination of the 2027 budget and several dozen bills by the National Transitional Council.
