The Malian government has dissolved the communal council of Commune I in the Bamako district over serious administrative management offences, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation told the Council of Ministers, according to Bamada.net. The authorities particularly accused the local body of irregular land subdivision or recognition of land rights, issuing notifications for residential plots, and irregular management of ordinary and long-term leases.
The communal council was also accused of collecting fees from marriage celebration charges. A request for an explanation had been sent to it before the dissolution, in accordance with the procedure set out in the Code of Territorial Authorities, according to Bamada.net. The measure is based on Articles 8 and 10 of Law No. 2023-004 of 13 March 2023, which authorise the suspension or dissolution of a communal council after written explanations have been submitted through the mayor.
