Lwazi Mdladla, a former radio presenter, won ward 40 in kwaMashu, north of Durban, for the MK party, defeating the ANC in the ward. He won all seven voting districts and promises to devote his first six months of salary to local development, reports Scrolla.Africa.

Lwazi Mdladla, a former presenter on Vibe FM radio, won ward 40 in kwaMashu, north of Durban, for the MK party, defeating the ANC in the ward during the local elections on 4 November in South Africa. He won all seven voting districts in the ward, according to the Daily Sun cited by Scrolla.Africa.

Mdladla had announced before the vote that he would give his first six months' salary to community development projects. He explained his entry into politics by the difficulties in the provision of public services, particularly water and electricity, in the neighbourhood where he lives.

The victory comes as the MK party has won several important wards in the eThekwini metropolitan area previously held by the ANC. Among them is ward 53, previously controlled by Zandile Gumede, which the MK party also won with a majority of votes.
