The British Foreign Office now advises against certain travel in Kenya, including to Moyale and Mandera County, because of terrorist and security risks along the borders. The new guidance also covers an area within 5 km of Moyale, according to the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the British ministry responsible for foreign affairs, advises against all travel to Kenya's Mandera County and several areas close to the border with Somalia because of the terrorist threat, according to its recommendations published on Friday 6 November.
The FCDO also advises against all but essential travel to Moyale and within a 5-kilometre radius, including the border post with Ethiopia. In Wajir, the advisory covers Tarbaj, Wajir East and areas within 60 kilometres of the Somali border, while in Garissa several areas are affected, with exceptions including Garissa town, Tuko reports.
The British advisory also includes Lamu County, with the exception of Lamu and Manda islands. Other areas subject to the recommendation to travel only when essential include northern Tana River County up to Saka and a 15-kilometre stretch of coastline between the Tana and Galana rivers, according to the FCDO.
