Ivorian Finance Minister Adama Coulibaly is calling for reforms against financial crime to continue after Ivory Coast left the FATF grey list. He says the decision will reduce the country’s reputational risk and facilitate transactions, according to the Ivorian Press Agency.

Ivory Coast’s Minister of Finance and the Budget, Adama Coulibaly, on Friday 30 October called for reforms against financial crime to continue after Ivory Coast was removed from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP) reported. He said the decision “is not an end in itself” and called for the gains to be consolidated.

Adama Coulibaly said the government intended to sustain the reforms over time and maintain the effectiveness of the national system against illicit financial flows. In his view, leaving the grey list should reduce the reputational risk associated with the country’s listing and facilitate financial transactions for the population.

The minister also believes that the removal could improve the competitiveness of the Ivorian economy, particularly by strengthening the business climate. Ivory Coast was removed from the FATF grey list on 30 October.
