Gabon’s National Real Estate Company (SNI) has launched the sale of 53 social housing units in Franceville, Haut-Ogooué province, near the University of Science and Technology of Masuku (USTM). The homes will be offered under a rent-to-own scheme, allowing beneficiaries to become owners gradually, according to the Gabonese Press Agency (AGP).

A deposit of 3 million CFA francs will be required when applying. A committee will review applications submitted to the governor’s office, SNI director-general Jean-Pierre Ondounda said.

SNI also plans to build 200 homes in Boukaréf, near the Foire stadium, and about 100 houses in Mboma Ognalali. Around 500 plots are also to be developed in Foncé and Mbouma Ognali to meet local demand for land and housing.

The initiative follows Gabon’s announcement of a 500-home project with China on 19 October. The meeting in Franceville brought together local elected officials and administrative authorities, including Passa prefect Rafael Obali, representing the governor of Haut-Ogooué.
