French education and research unions are calling for a national strike on 10 November 2026 to demand pay rises, new jobs and more funding. They are notably seeking 15,000 permanent posts and the cancellation of planned job cuts in the 2027 budget, according to their joint statement.
French education and research unions have called for a new national strike on 10 November 2026, with demonstrations and gatherings, according to a joint statement published on the website of the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) Education. They are notably demanding higher wages, new jobs, improved working conditions and more funding for education and research.
The trade union organisations are also calling for the creation of 15,000 permanent posts and the cancellation of job cuts planned in the 2027 budget. They also oppose the organisation, on 9 November, of a conference on wages, which they fear they will not be involved in for the public sector, according to the statement. They have also criticised police interventions during previous demonstrations and called for an end to measures targeting pupils and teachers.
The day of action is to take place a few days after the demonstrations of 6 November, during which the CGT claimed 1.57 million participants in France, compared with 600,000 according to the state, according to the demonstrations tally. It also follows the announcement, on 7 November, of new demonstrations by French unions and student groups for Saturday.
