Ivory Coast's minister Myss Belmonde Dogo distributed food, equipment and 2 million CFA francs to 91 people affected by flooding in Gagnoa. Ten households severely hit by the 7 and 8 October rains were among the beneficiaries, while the town hall is funding their rehousing for six months, according to AIP.
Ivory Coast's Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, Myss Belmonde Dogo, handed food, essential goods and two million CFA francs on Friday in Gagnoa to 91 people affected by flooding. Ten households severely affected by heavy rains on 7 and 8 October were among the beneficiaries, according to the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP).
The aid included rice, tomatoes, soap, oil, pasta, saucepans and kettles. It supplements the six million CFA francs mobilised by Gagnoa town hall to rehouse for six months families whose homes had become uninhabitable, said Amany Grâce, the regional director of National Cohesion, Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty.
The regional director said the donations were intended to demonstrate the government's solidarity with those affected. Gagnoa prefecture's secretary-general 2, Daligou Ismaël Dosso, for his part called on residents to leave high-risk areas and accept preventive measures to avoid further tragedies, AIP reports.
