Five polls conducted between June and October put the Democratic Alliance ahead of the African National Congress in voting intentions in Tshwane. The surveys differ on the ranking of smaller parties that could influence coalition-building after the municipal election, the Daily Maverick reports.

Five polls conducted between June and October all put the Democratic Alliance (DA) ahead in voting intentions in Tshwane, ahead of the municipal elections scheduled for next week. The African National Congress (ANC) came second in each poll, according to the Daily Maverick.

The surveys differ over third and fourth place, assigned variously to the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ActionSA. The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) also remains capable of influencing the composition of the next municipal council, according to results compiled by the Daily Maverick.

The latest polls give the DA-FF+ coalition a narrow lead in seats over an ANC-EFF alliance. ActionSA could decide between the two camps: a coalition bringing together the DA, ActionSA and the FF+ would secure a majority in some scenarios, while an ANC-EFF-ActionSA alliance would still need the support of smaller parties in most scenarios.

These projections come after parties differed over municipal coalitions in Tshwane, as reported on 29 October.
