Former Portugal international Luis Figo paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo after his international retirement, praising the player who "transformed the national team" and brought three major trophies to Portugal. Figo, who played alongside Ronaldo early in his career, recalled that Ronaldo had told him he wanted to become an "unforgettable" player for Portuguese supporters, reports the Zambian Observer.

Luis Figo reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo's international retirement, praising him as "the best player in Portugal's history". "We are going to miss one of the best players in history," the former Portugal international said, according to the Zambian Observer.

Luis Figo recalled Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival in the national team, at a time when he himself was still playing for it: "He arrived with a great change and transformed the group with his quality." He recounted a confidence from his former teammate, one day after training, explaining that he wanted to be a player Portuguese supporters would not forget and to win trophies with the national team. "He kept his word and became the best player in Portugal's history, giving us three major trophies in a row," Figo added.

The reaction came the day after Cristiano Ronaldo announced the end of his international career, on 5 November. Several voices have spoken since, including Jorge Jesus, who had asked him to remain in the national team, and Bernardo Silva, named Portugal captain on 6 November.
