Emmanuel Macron has cancelled his official tour of Senegal and Nigeria, scheduled for the end of October, as a social movement shakes France, Jeune Afrique reports. The French president was due to travel to Abuja and then Dakar, where he was expected on 30 and 31 October.
The visit would have been Emmanuel Macron’s first official visit to Senegal since Bassirou Diomaye Faye was elected president. It was also due to take place as Senegal redefines its international partnerships and prepares for the Youth Olympic Games, while Paris seeks to revive its relations with West Africa, according to Jeune Afrique. Preparations were already well advanced, but the programme was still being finalised.
