The General Confederation of Labour estimates that nearly 800,000 people demonstrated or gathered in France on Saturday, including 250,000 in Paris. The police prefecture counted 110,000 participants in the capital, according to Agence France-Presse.
The CGT claimed that nearly 800,000 people demonstrated in France, including 250,000 in Paris, during rallies held on Saturday 24 October against the rising cost of living. The police prefecture counted 110,000 participants in the capital, according to AFP.
Incidents were reported in Bordeaux, where CRS riot police charged after stones were thrown, according to images broadcast by ICI Gironde.
The mobilisation comes after the restrictions imposed on demonstrations by Emmanuel Macron on 22 October and the rerouting of the Paris demonstration route, announced on 24 October. It follows demonstrations against the rising cost of living that led to nearly 1,000 arrests in France, according to a tally published on 24 October.
