The European Investment Bank is considering €25 million in financing, or approximately 16.4 billion CFA francs, to strengthen Benin’s participation in ATIDI and support businesses. The project targets micro, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as foreign investors, according to the project sheet published by the EIB.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering financing of €25 million, or approximately 16.4 billion CFA francs, to strengthen Benin’s participation in the capital of the African Trade Insurance and Development Agency (ATIDI), according to a project sheet published by the EIB on 23 October 2026. The operation is intended to enable the country to make greater use of the agency’s insurance products.
The EIB financing represents part of a project whose total cost is estimated at 136.5 billion CFA francs. The operation is intended to directly benefit Beninese micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as foreign investors, the European institution said.
The EIB links the project to the priorities of the European Union’s Global Gateway partnership with Benin, including green energy, sustainable and inclusive growth, employment, and the development of the port of Cotonou and trade. It expects no negative environmental impact and says the project will contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The operation will be guaranteed by the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument – Global Europe and the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+). It follows Benin’s financing agreements worth 249.5 billion CFA francs announced on 14 October 2026.
