Senegal's education minister maintains that examinations remain free in public primary schools, despite an annual 200 CFA franc contribution requested from parents at two schools in Louga. He said no pupil was barred from taking an examination for failure to pay, in response to questions from MP Guy Marius Sagna, according to SeneNews.
The contribution was confirmed at Artillerie Nord and Marbatt schools, where parents agreed to contribute towards the cost of printing examination papers, according to the education minister. He explained this practice by the lack of operating budgets in public primary schools, while registration fees are prohibited there.
The issue comes amid a reduction of more than 31 billion CFA francs in Senegal's education budget announced on 30 October 2026. This reduction had been reported in Senegal's education budget.
