Nigerian Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate says the country’s only confirmed Ebola case has not spread into the community. Authorities are continuing contact tracing and monitoring exposed people, without changing public gatherings for now, according to MyJoyOnline.
Nigeria’s health minister, Muhammad Ali Pate, says the confirmed Ebola case in the country remains isolated and that no community transmission has been detected. He made the remarks on Thursday, according to MyJoyOnline.
The authorities are strengthening contact tracing and monitoring people who may have been exposed. Pate said there was no reason to panic and indicated that large gatherings could go ahead as planned, while leaving open the possibility of additional measures if the situation worsened.
Nigeria confirmed its first Ebola case in more than ten years on Tuesday. The infection is part of an outbreak that health officials have described as the fastest-spreading ever recorded. Nigeria is the fourth African country affected by the outbreak, according to MyJoyOnline.
The announcement follows confirmation of an Ebola case in Abuja on 20 October. On 22 October, Africa CDC called for international aid over Ebola Bundibugyo.
