Frozen fish sellers in Daloa are suspending their activity until Monday after protesting against rising prices. Their president, Lago Liliane, says Apolo fish has risen from 19,000 to 35,000 CFA francs and Sosso from 18,000 to 46,000 CFA francs, AIP reports.

Frozen fish sellers in Daloa, in western Ivory Coast, announced on Wednesday 21 October 2026 that they would suspend their activities until Monday, after demonstrating against rising prices. Their president, Lago Liliane, told the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP) that the purchase price of Apolo fish had risen from 19,000 to 35,000 CFA francs, and that of Sosso from 18,000 to 46,000 CFA francs.

The prefect of Haut-Sassandra, Yacouba Doumbia, called on the traders to remain calm and asked the regional director of Trade, N’cho Beda Jean, to investigate price movements. He is due to meet the sellers again on Monday. Cold-storage facilities had been vandalised before the meeting, according to Aka Marcel, president of the Haut-Sassandra cold-storage facilities, who said the increase was not directly dependent on local operators.

The suspension follows a demonstration at which the traders denounced purchase prices they consider harmful to their business. On 13 September, Daloa had hosted the presentation of certificates to 500 young trainees, reported in our article on internship certificates in Daloa.
