Hotel classification and equipment levels are the main factors determining room rates in Ivory Coast, with location and demand as additional criteria. The rules were presented in Abidjan on 4 November by Porquet Arnaud, a technical adviser at the Ministry of Tourism, according to AIP.

Hotel classification and equipment levels mainly determine room rates in Ivory Coast, Porquet Arnaud, technical adviser responsible for Quality at the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, said in Abidjan on Wednesday 4 November. The location of establishments and the level of demand also influence price-setting, he said.

Porquet Arnaud was speaking at a workshop organised by the ministry for around 30 journalists from the print, audiovisual and digital press. He said that the quality of equipment was among the objective and subjective criteria taken into account when setting hotel rates.

The training covers the legal framework governing tourism and leisure activities, applicable national and international legislation, and methods for verifying legal information before publication. Abdoulaye Diané, director of Legal Affairs and Litigation, called on journalists to gain a better understanding of these rules in order to ensure rigorous coverage of tourism news.
