Algerian opposition figure Hichem Aboud was questioned in Paris by an anti-terror investigating judge in an inquiry into the attempted murder against him in Roubaix in February 2025. Three young men are being prosecuted for attempted murder by an organised group in connection with a terrorist enterprise, according to AFP.

Algerian opposition figure Hichem Aboud was questioned on Friday in Paris by an anti-terror investigating judge as part of an inquiry into an attempted murder targeting him in Roubaix in February 2025, an AFP journalist observed. Three young men are being prosecuted for attempted murder by an organised group in connection with a terrorist enterprise and a fourth for complicity in the attempted murder and criminal terrorist association, according to a judicial source cited by AFP.

According to a source close to the case cited by AFP, investigators discovered a "contract on Hichem Aboud's head" while investigating the robbery of a museum near Lyon in November 2024. Analysis of the encrypted Signal messaging service allegedly made it possible to identify a team of suspected perpetrators, one of whom was to shoot him for 10,000 euros. The team went to Roubaix in February 2025 with instructions to kill and an address, but the plan failed because Mr Aboud was absent.

Hichem Aboud, a former Algerian intelligence officer who became a journalist critical of the authorities, attributes the attempted murder to the Algerian regime. "I have no enemy other than the Algerian regime and its intermediaries," he told AFP after his questioning. He had also filed a civil-party complaint in Belgium over an attempted assassination targeting him in Liège in 2021.
