The Angolan government wants to regulate taxis using digital platforms, a sector with about 25,000 vehicles and six operators. The Council of Ministers considered a draft law intended to authorise the president to legislate on this form of transport, State Secretary for Land Transport Jorge Bengue announced, Jornal F8 reports.
According to Jorge Bengue, the activity has expanded over the past eight years without rules or taxation. The draft provides for identifying platforms, operators and drivers, and establishing criteria to regulate the service. The government also wants to reduce differences in fares charged for the same journey and make it easier to investigate assaults and other crimes targeting passengers.
The State Secretary presented formalising the sector as a way to improve the safety and regularity of journeys, as well as to promote tourism through a better-regulated service.
