Zambia intends to raise the contribution of its manufacturing industry to gross domestic product from the current 9% to 30% over the next five years. Minister of Industry Noel Nkoma presented this target during a meeting with representatives of the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM), according to News Diggers.
Minister of Commerce and Exports Caroline Katotobwe also said the transition towards a 24-hour economy had already begun and that the government was progressing towards its full implementation. She said the new Ministry of Commerce and Exports should make it possible to turn policy directions into concrete activities.
The two ministers thus presented the government's ambitions for continuous economic activity and industrial development at the meeting held on Wednesday 4 November 2026. The announced target for the manufacturing sector is to increase its share of national wealth from 9% to 30% in five years.
