At Herold Uirab’s trial at the Windhoek High Court, a witness said he had found a bloodstained T-shirt near a rubbish dump at Stinkwater. Uirab is accused of murdering Lydia Kharises, as well as rape and violating her body, in a case involving events in December 2021, New Era reports.

At Herold Uirab’s trial for the murder of Lydia Kharises, a witness told the court that he had found a bloodstained T-shirt near a house where a wedding feast had been held. Joseph Tjiunda, 59, testified before the Windhoek High Court, according to Namibian daily New Era.

The shepherd said he had picked up the garment at a rubbish dump one Sunday morning while returning from a shop. He washed it, sewed up a tear and then wore it. Lydia Kharises, whom he later met, reportedly recognised the T-shirt as one her sister Lydia had worn before her death and handed it to the police. During cross-examination, Tjiunda explained that he had only noticed the bloodstains on the front of the garment while washing it, as they had been hidden by the ash covering it.

The prosecution alleges that Uirab killed Lydia Kharises between 11 and 12 December 2021 at Stinkwater farm, near Dordabis. He is also charged with rape, violating a corpse and obstructing justice. The prosecution alleges, among other things, that her body was mutilated after the murder.
