A man tried for Vernon Gavin’s murder has resurfaced under another identity in a 2018 murder case in Usakos, Namibia. Identified as Quinton van Vuuren in the Walvis Bay case, he remains in custody and is due in Karibib on 10 November, according to New Era.
A man prosecuted in Namibia for the murder of Vernon Gavin in Walvis Bay has resurfaced in another criminal case under the name Gofried Korner. Known as Quinton van Vuuren in the Gavin case, he appeared last month before the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court for a murder committed in 2018 in Usakos, reports New Era.
The case was transferred to the Karibib Magistrate’s Court, where the accused is due to appear on 10 November. He remains in custody. Investigators suspect him of stabbing a 17-year-old to death in the Hakhaseb neighbourhood, in front of the Starlight Bar, and then using the name Korner in those proceedings. He had been granted bail of 3,000 Namibian dollars before disappearing after paying the amount.
Van Vuuren is also accused, alongside Sem Moses, of the murder and aggravated robbery of 53-year-old Vernon Gavin, who was found dead at his home in Walvis Bay on 30 December 2023. The two men were acquitted of the rape charges after the prosecution presented its evidence, but they still contest the murder and robbery charges. Their trial is due to resume on 30 November 2026.
Quinton van Vuuren’s reappearance comes after two men accused of Vernon Gavin’s murder were acquitted of rape on 20 October. The separate case concerns a murder committed in Usakos in 2018.
