UN to strengthen sustainable development training for journalists

The UN wants to strengthen training for journalists in Cape Verde on the Sustainable Development Goals and establish new cooperation with the media. The courses will cover technical topics in the 2030 Agenda to help the public understand them, according to Patrícia Portela, the UN Resident Coordinator.

The UN will strengthen its cooperation with Cape Verde’s media by offering specialised training to journalists and communications professionals on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Patrícia Portela, the UN Resident Coordinator in Cape Verde, announced the initiative at a meeting with journalists and officials from UN agencies, according to Expresso das Ilhas.

The training will cover technical subjects in the 2030 Agenda to help professionals present the issues simply and objectively. The partnership is also intended to help the media better convey communities’ needs, link public policies with citizens and encourage society’s participation in achieving the SDGs, Patrícia Portela explained, Expresso das Ilhas reports.

The United Nations and public and private media are also to establish a shared work agenda and specific arrangements for cooperation to communicate the organisation’s priorities and accelerate sustainable development in Cape Verde, according to the official.
