Manchester United host Bournemouth in the Premier League after a run of seven matches without a win, AFP reports. Michael Carrick’s team are 13th and could find themselves in the relegation zone if weekend results go against them.
The Mancunians were beaten 4-1 by Como in midweek in the Champions League. Their captain, Bruno Fernandes, criticised Carrick’s tactical choices, and Carrick responded by blaming the players for not running enough. The defeat adds to tensions within the club, after defender Lisandro Martinez criticised the investments made during the transfer window a week earlier.
Manchester United took only seven points from their first seven league matches, their lowest total at this stage since the Premier League was created. The club have already changed managers twice over the past two seasons, with Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim leaving.
In the other fixtures of the weekend, Manchester City travel to Aston Villa in an attempt to preserve their perfect start to the season. Brighton, third and having scored 23 goals in seven matches, travel to Liverpool before facing Manchester City the following weekend. According to AFP, only Barcelona have scored more goals than Brighton among clubs in Europe’s five major leagues this season.
