Russia fired at least 21 ballistic missiles at Kyiv, while Ukraine launched 630 drones towards Moscow, according to the authorities of both countries. Despite the attacks, Moscow and Kyiv are considering resuming talks in November, after exchanges of soldiers’ remains, reports Sowetan.

Russia fired at least 21 ballistic missiles at Kyiv in three waves, while Ukraine launched 630 drones towards Moscow overnight, according to the authorities of both countries, reports Sowetan.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that three of the Russian missiles were carrying cluster munitions, which scatter over a wide area and pose a risk to civilians. The two countries also exchanged the remains of soldiers: Moscow handed over 252 and Kyiv 25, according to the Belarusian news agency Belta.

Russia said on Wednesday that it was ready to resume talks with Ukraine under US mediation next month. Zelensky hopes they will resume in early November, after a meeting in St Petersburg between Vladimir Putin and US envoy Steve Witkoff. The US proposals delivered to Putin reportedly included a scenario in which Ukraine would cede the entire Donbas to Russia in exchange for a NATO security guarantee, according to a source close to the Kremlin cited by Sowetan.

This latest salvo came a day after Russian strikes on Kyiv killed two people and injured 34, on 22 October. The US peace proposals for Ukraine had also been deemed insufficient by the Kremlin.
