The United Arab Emirates allegedly passed intelligence to the Houthis to help them target Yemeni forces backed by Saudi Arabia, according to four sources cited by Drop Site News. Military intermediaries in Yemen linked to Abu Dhabi are also said to have helped identify targets, while Houthi officials and the Southern Transitional Council dispute the allegations, Caasimada Online reports.
The United Arab Emirates allegedly passed intelligence to the Houthis to help them target Yemeni government forces backed by Saudi Arabia, according to an investigation by Drop Site News citing four informed sources. Two of them say Abu Dhabi allegedly shared information directly with the Houthis, also known as Ansarallah.
The sources say the intelligence concerned targets in Yemen, not Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia. One says the exchanges are continuing and that the Houthis have established direct contacts with military commanders who remain close to the UAE.
According to a source cited by Drop Site News, a senior US official recently warned Abu Dhabi that Washington had uncovered the cooperation and asked it to end it. The sources say, however, that intelligence-sharing is continuing. The UAE ambassador to the United States, Yousef Al Otaiba, the White House and a spokesperson for the Riyadh-led coalition did not respond to the outlet’s requests for comment.
Senior Houthi official Mohammed al-Bukhaiti denied that the UAE was supporting the movement and described the country as neutral in the conflict. The Southern Transitional Council, backed by Abu Dhabi, also denied any links with the Houthis.
The allegations come after Saudi Arabia intercepted ten Houthi missiles, as reported on 25 October. Riyadh’s interceptions of Houthi missiles were attributed to Saudi forces.
