US President Donald Trump said he would contact Elon Musk if disruptions to the satellite network used by Ukraine’s military persist. He said access had reportedly been restored, while acknowledging that he had not yet spoken to the head of SpaceX, according to Punch.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday, 23 October, that he would contact Elon Musk if the Ukrainian army’s access to Starshield, the military communications network associated with Starlink, remained disrupted. “If there’s a problem, I’ll fix it,” he told reporters at the White House, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP), as cited by Punch.
Trump said he had not yet spoken to the head of SpaceX, but indicated that he might do so. The previous day, he had said Musk had restored access to the service. Ukraine, however, was reporting continuing difficulties with Starshield.
Asked about Musk’s control over a network essential to Ukrainian operations against the Russian invasion, Trump said he did not think the entrepreneur was misusing it. He described him as a fair person and said he knew him well.
Relations between the two men had deteriorated after Musk left his role leading the US department tasked with cutting public spending. They appeared to have grown closer in recent months: Musk attended a White House banquet in September in honour of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
