The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has placed in police custody the suspect in the racist shooting between Trappes and La Verrière, which killed one person and injured five, including a seriously wounded 12-year-old girl. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez described the shooting as a terrorist crime, according to French authorities.

The suspect in the shooting that killed one person and injured several others in Trappes and La Verrière, in Yvelines, France, was arrested and placed in police custody. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the investigation, the Pnat said on Friday.

The alleged gunman reportedly fired bursts from a car, targeting a health centre, vehicles and a play area in Trappes, according to a police source quoted by AFP. A 12-year-old girl was seriously injured by eight bullet impacts, while three of the five injured people are in a serious condition, according to Trappes mayor Ali Rabeh.

The police custody follows the suspect’s arrest, announced earlier on Friday, and the anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office taking over the case. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez called the incident a ‘terrorist crime’, while Emmanuel Macron expressed his support for the victims and their families in a message posted on X.
